Oertly Breaks All-Time Kills Record; Lions Defeat Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – Josh Oertly (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) became the Penn State Behrend men's volleyball all-time leader in kills, knocking down 15 to give him 678 for his career and leading the Lions past Hilbert 3-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday.

Oertly, who needed just seven kills to break the record, tied a season best with 15 to surpass former teammate Grant Kocher (2010-13), who held the record at 669.

The Lions (8-18) registered their second four-set victory over Hilbert this season, winning 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17. Trenton Munk (Baden, PA/Ambridge) knocked down a career-high 20 kills on 30 attempts with just two errors for a .581 attack percentage, while Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had a career-high 55 assists.

Eric Theiss (Plum, PA/Plum) posted his fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs. Tyler Herrmann (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had a game-high 11 digs, adding nine kills and four blocks.

As a team, Behrend was two kills away from their season best (58) and hit .333 on the night.

The Lions finish the season with an 8-18 record.
