Men's Volleyball Defeats D'Youville in Three

BUFFALO, NY – Trenton Munk hit a career-high .750 with 12 kills on 16 attempts with no errors to help the Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team past D'Youville 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday night.

As a team, the Lions (2-4, 2-2 AMCC) recorded double-digit kills in the second and third set to sweep the Spartans (3-3, 2-1 AMCC) for their second conference win of the season by scores of 25-11, 28-26 and 25-13.

Calvin Nowicki (Eden, NY/Eden) dished out 14 assists, while posting four digs, four kills and three aces. Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) led with 14 digs to go with eight kills.

D'Youville got nine digs and seven kills from Pat Stroh in the loss.

Behrend started the first set with an 11-0 run behind the serving of Hildebrand. The Lions got four kills in the first five points and then took advantage of five straight errors by the Spartans. Tyler Fiely (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) knocked in a kill for the 11th straight point before D'Youville got on the board thanks to a service error.

The Lions pushed the lead to 13 at 24-9, before surrendering two points and then winning on a service error at 25-11.

The largest lead of a tight second set was four points by Behrend at 14-10. The Lions had set point on three occasions yet the Spartans tried to rally back but could not stop Munk or Derek Kuhn (Baden, PA/Ambridge) towards the end.

Nowicki served five straight points in the third set to help the Lions jump out to a 10-2 lead. Behrend never trailed and went on an 8-3 run, winning the final three points on errors for a 25-13 victory.

Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) added12 assists to put him at 924 career assists, needing 76 to reach 1,000 assists.

Behrend returns to action on Friday against Eastern Mennonite. Match begins at 7 p.m.
