Men's Volleyball Downs D'Youville

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team blanked D'Youville 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action in the Junker Center on Thursday night.

The Lions (5-7, 3-3 AMCC) have won their second consecutive match and second straight against the Spartans (3-8, 2-4 AMCC) this season. Robert McMaster (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) tied his career high with 14 digs and Calvin Nowicki (Eden, NY/Eden) added 15 assists.

Trenton Munk (Baden, PA/Ambridge) and Tyler Herrmann (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) each recorded 10 kills and only one error on the night to hit .600 and .500, respectively.

Six different players registered a kill in the first set, totaling 16 overall, for a 25-19 victory. With a one-point lead at 11-10, Behrend used an 8-2 run to go ahead 19-12 and cruise to a six-point decision and 1-0 lead in the match.

D'Youville managed a pair of aces and took advantage of a few errors for a quick 4-2 lead in set two. From there, Nowicki served up 11 straight points to help the Lions take a commanding 13-4 lead. The Spartans rallied back to get within three at 17-13, but Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) registered three aces to make it 23-16, before a D'Youville service error and a Herrmann kill secured a 25-17 win.

Behrend won the third set down the stretch behind Tyler Fiely's (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) final four serves that drew four errors to make it 25-19. Munk led with four kills on five attempts with three blocks.

Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) tallied 13 assists to put him six away from reaching 1,000 for his career.

The Lions return to action on Thursday at Wilson. Match time is 6 p.m.
