Hildebrand Helps Lions Past D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team recorded a 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-23) win over D'Youville in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

The win marks the third straight-set win over the Spartans (6-15) this season. The Lions (11-10) recorded 16 kills in the first set and 13 in the third, while forcing 14 D'Youville errors in the second set for the victory.

Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lions, PA/Red Lion) led with 13 kills and Robert McMaster (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) had double-digit digs with 13.

The Spartans led by as many as six in the first set at 19-13. Behrend went on an 11-2 run for a 24-21 lead off a kill from Tyler Herrmann (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), his third kill over a stretch of five points. D'Youville managed to even the match at 25-all, before a kill from Cody Geis (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and another from JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) for the two-point win.

Behrend never trailed in the second set. Five D'Youville errors combined with a block from Geis and Herrmann got the Lions ahead 18-11. Kills from Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), Herrmann and the eventual set winner from Hildebrand made it 25-20 for a 2-0 lead in the match.

Similar to the first set, the Spartans grabbed a 19-13 lead and Behrend battled back down the stretch thanks to four kills from Hildebrand for the sweep at 25-23.

Sprentz finished with 27 assists, six digs, two kills and two blocks.

The Lions return to action on Friday against Wilson, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Junker Center.
