GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team defeated Thiel 3-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
Score: Penn State Behrend 3, Thiel 1 (25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-21)
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-1, 1-0 AMCC), Thiel (3-3, 0-1 AMCC)
Key Moments:
* The Behrend Lions won the first two sets before surrendering the third set narrowly and then capturing the fourth set for the AMCC victory
* Alex Jackson (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) had a double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs
* Jackson also added three kills and three blocks to his stat line
* Kyle Hoffman (Carlton, PA/Cochranton) led with 12 kills and Owen Wienczkowski (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) added 11 kills and seven blocks
* Libero Adrian Martinez (San Juan, PR/Wesleyan Academy) also recorded 12 digs
* The Lions forced 13 errors by Thiel in the first to edge the Tomcats by three
* Up by one at 22-21, Wienczkowski tallied a pair of kills combined with an attack error to win 25-22
* The Tomcats grabbed a 4-0 lead in the second but Behrend responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead for good
* Joshua Elegeer (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) finished the second set with two kills to make it 25-20
* Thiel won the third set 25-21 and then the Lions halted the comeback with a 25-21 win in the fourth
* Luke Mumpower (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) got the winning point with his second service ace of the match
