Olimski Makes History in Win over Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Ct. – Matt Olimski (San Diego, CA/Otay Ranch) breaks the 13 year-old single game saves record after tallying 24 saves in the win over Connecticut College 17-10 Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (6-11) took on the Camels (7-12) for the second time this season in the fourth game of the weekend in Connecticut. Last week, Connecticut College defeated Behrend 12-9 in a very close game. Grant Garcia (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) netted five goals, two assists, and a steal while Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) added four goals, two steals, and an assist in the win.

In this rematch, the Lions got on the board first, scoring just over two minutes into the game. Andre Sardaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore) notched two first quarter goals while Garcia and Valkusky each scored to give Behrend a 4-2 edge at the end of the first.

Both teams traded goals in the opening 29 seconds of the second. Garcia would add another goal 11 seconds later to push the Lions' lead to 6-3 in the beginning of the quarter. With the help of Garcia, Valkusky, and Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge), Behrend would close out the quarter on a 3-1 run, making the game 9-4 at halftime.

The Lions would continue their scoring streak throughout the remainder of the game, adding three goals in the third and five in the fourth. Cam Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) recorded two goals on the day. Sardaryzadeh and Frerichs dished out five and two assists, respectively, to help the Lions find their sixth win of the season.

Behrend is back in action when they host Gannon at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
