Lions Fall to Austin, UCLA in MPSF Tournament

BERKLEY, Ca. - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo fell to Austin College 10-9 on Friday morning to become to No. 6 seed in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship Tournament. They faced the No. 3 seed UCLA in the first round of competition, falling 27-4.

Game One:

* The Penn State Behrend Lions fell to Austin in a play-in game to become the No. 6 seed in the MPSF Championship Tournament
* Behrend was down one goal at halftime but outscored Austin 3-1 in the third period
* Dario Gonzalez (Hanford, CA/Hanford West) extended the Lions lead to 8-6 at the beginning of the fourth before the Kangaroos answered with three straight goals
* Andre Sardaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore) tied the game with 47 second left before Cade Griffith netted the game winner for Austin with just 26 seconds remaining
* Three Behrend players chipped in two goals each against the Kangaroos
* Isaak Hatopp (Saline, MI/Saline), Collin Holmes (Lake Forest, CA/El Toro), and Sardaryzadeh led the offense for the Lions
* The Lions loss advanced them on to play No. 3 UCLA

Game Two:

* In the first round of the MPSF tournament, the Lions fell to UCLA, 27-4
* The Bruins outscored Behrend 8-0 in the first period and the Lions were unable to overcome the decifit
* Behrend had four players score goals in the loss
* The Lions were outshot 43-33 by UCLA
* Alijah Santangelo (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) had 13 saves and four steals in net
* The Bruins were led by Gabe Discipulo with five goals

Up Next: 

* Penn State Behrend will play for fifth place on Sunday at 2 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
