Softball Edges John Carroll; Lions Fall To Lebanon Valley

CLERMONT, Fl.  – Julie Heinl pitched seven innings, only allowing six hit and three earned runs to help the Penn State Behrend softball team defeat John Carroll 5-4 in non-conference action in Clermont, Florida. The Lions fell in the opener to Lebanon Valley, 5-2.

Morgan Griffin, Amy Greene and Samantha Grismore each went 2-for-3, while Greene tallied an RBI in the win. Behrend scored all five runs in the fourth inning, smacking seven hits in the one inning. John Carroll got its runs in the second and fifth innings, but could not pull off the rally in the seventh.

In the first game, the Flying Dutchwomen scored two runs in the second and one in the fourth and sixth to get past Behrend. Greene had a 2-for-3 outing and Ashley Gruber smacked a two-run homer. Greene hit a double and scored off Gruber's home run for the only two Lions' runs.

Behrend returns to action on March 26 against Franciscan. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
