Softball Set to Host AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team earned the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the 2017 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships this weekend, beginning Friday, May 5.

The Lions (26-12), the two-time defending AMCC Champions, will be making their 17th appearance in the tournament. Behrend was named the regular-season champions with a 16-2 conference mark to secure home-field advantage for the championships for the first time since 2013-14 season.

The Lions received a bye and will face the winner of No. 4 Pitt-Greensburg vs. No. 5 Franciscan at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The first game will feature No. 3 Penn State Altoona and No. 6 Mt. Aloysius at 10 a.m. The winner of the first game takes on No. 2 Medaille in the third game of the day.

The double-elimination tournament continues with five games on Saturday and a possible two games on Sunday if necessary. The champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Behrend, who is going for its eighth conference championship, enters the tournament winning 20 of its last 21 games. This season, the Lions went 8-2 against the field, sweeping Medaille, Franciscan and Mt. Aloysius.
