Lions Fall to Nationally-Ranked St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, NY – Lindsey Thayer threw a one-hit shutout to lead nationally-ranked St. John Fisher past Penn State Behrend 2-0 in the NCAA Division III first-round regional game on Friday afternoon.

Ashley Prince homered to left field to score the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning to get past the Lions (26-13). Thayer threw a complete game and struck out 16 for the win.

Rachel Miller (North East, PA/North East) went the distance for Behrend, allowing three this and striking out five.

In the fourth, Kate Mazierski tripled to center field to start the frame for St. John Fisher. Prince then stepped up and hit one over the fence for the third hit of the game for the Cardinals.

Katie Gozzard (Pittsburgh, PA/Deer Lakes) recorded the lone hit for the Lions in the top of the fifth.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against William Patterson at 1 p.m.
