ERIE, Pa. – The No. 1 Penn State Behrend softball team is set to host No. 8 Alfred State on Saturday in a best two out of three series in the 2021 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship Quarterfinals beginning at 12 p.m.

* The Lions are the No. 1 seed in the AMCC tournament and looking to capture their ninth conference championship
* Behrend last won the title in 2017
* The Lions fell to Franciscan in the AMCC semifinals in 2019
* Mackenzie McIntire (Stoneboro, PA/Lakeview) and Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) were named AMCC Athletes of the Week this week
* Schmidt is tied for first in the AMCC with eight wins and two shutouts. She is averaging 6.87 strikeouts per game in conference play for best in the AMCC
* McIntire leads the league in batting average with a .542 as well as hits (45), and RBIs (33)
* The Lions hold six of the seven top spots in hits this season. McIntire, Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg), Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA/DuBois), Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy), Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley), and Marissa Torretti (DuBois, PA/DuBois) each have over 30 hits this season
* As a team, Behrend leads the conference in runs (217), hits (310), doubles (72), triples (17), and RBIs (202)
* The Lions have a conference best team batting average of .379 and slugging percentage of .534
Alfred State News & Notes
* The Pioneers are 7-19 overall with a 3-13 conference record
* Alfred State is the No. 8 seed and advanced to the quarterfinals after taking down Hilbert in a play-in series on Thursday
* The Pioneers defeated the No. 9 Hawks, 4-2 and 9-3
* Kailey Wonica leads the team with a .473 batting average and 44 hits
* Alfred State joined the AMCC in 2020 and have not won an AMCC Championship
