McNany Hits Grand Slam; Lions Split on Day One of Spring Break

LEESBURG, Fla. - The Penn State Behrend softball team split a pair of games on day one of Spring Break in Leesburg, Florida on Saturday afternoon. The Lions defeated Sage and fell to RPI.

Game One:
Penn State Behrend 11, Sage 3 (5 innings) 
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-0), Sage (1-2) 

Noteworthy: 

* The Lions used a 9-0 run over three innings to get their first win of the season 
* Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) made her first collegiate home run a grand slam  
* McNany went 3-for-4 on the day and drove in five runs, including four in the bottom of the fifth to break open a 7-3 lead and end the opening game in five 
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) had a perfect day with a 3-for-3 performance with a triple 
* In her collegiate debut, Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had three hits, three runs and smacked a double 
* In the circle, Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) got the job done for her first win of the season 
* Schmidt struck out three in the five innings of work 
* Behrend rallied back from a 3-2 deficit in the second inning with five runs in the third while facing two outs 
* With bases load, Amy Nolte (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) had an RBI walk to even the score at 3-all 
* Two more singles and an error got four more runs and a 7-3 lead, before McNany's grand slam in the fifth 

Game Two: RPI 8, Penn State Behrend 7 
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-1), RPI (2-2) 
 
Noteworthy: 

* The Engineers trailed the entire game until the seventh inning
* RPI took a 4-3 lead in the fourth, but the Lions answered in the top of the fifth with four runs to go ahead 7-4
* The Engineers tied it in the fifth with three runs and then scored the game-winning on a sacrifice fly with bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning for their second win 
* Jones had two RBIs on two hits with a single and a double 
* Maddie Smith (DuBois, PA/DuBois) tallied a double to knock two runs in  
* Behrend recorded six runs on seven hits  
* Alaina Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) pitched four innings in the loss  
 
Next Up: 
 
* The Lions return to action tomorrow against Nebraska Wesleyan and Catholic, beginning at 3 p.m.
