Softball Takes Two From Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Alaina Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) hit the game-winning RBI single to score Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) in the top of the 10th inning to help the Penn State Behrend softball team post a 3-2 nightcap win over Geneva on Saturday. The Lions record a 6-1 game-one victory for the doubleheader sweep.  

Game One:
Penn State Behrend 6, Geneva 1 
Records: Penn State Behrend (4-6), Geneva (6-3) 

Noteworthy: 

* The Lions had four players with multiple hits
* Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) and Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) each had three hits
* McNany drove three runs in and Jones scored two runs
* Starter Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) earned her second win of the season, pitching the first five innings and striking out a pair
Nadia Bongiorni (Avella, PA/Avella) added two hits and two runs
* Behrend had two straight hits to start the opening frame by Jones and Bongiorni
* Jones stole home on an error and Bongiorni scored the eventual game winner on a single by C. McNany
* The final run of the inning came from Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA/DuBois) on a ground-out RBI by J. McNany
* Geneva's lone run came in the bottom of first inning 
* The Lions registered three more runs on five hits in the fourth for the final 6-1 margin

Game Two:
Penn State Behrend 3, Geneva 2 (10 innings) 
Records: Penn State Behrend (5-6), Geneva (6-4) 

Noteworthy: 

* Behrend relied on Wyckoff's heriocs and the base-running of J. McNany for the win
* Using the tiebreaker rule, J. McNany was placed on second to start the 10th inning
* Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) tallied her third hit of the day to send J. McNany to third
* After recording one out, J. McNany scored the game winner on a single from Wyckoff 
* The Lions tallied three runs on six hits, led by Manioci's 3-for-4 performance with a double
* Jones came in relief for the final 4.2 innings and earned the win
* Behrend tacked on two runs in the sixth, starting with J. McNany's sacrifice fly to send home Jones 
* Manioci smacked her double to score Bongiorni for a 2-0 lead
* The Golden Tornadoes responded with a run in the bottom of the frame and tied it in the sixth

* The Lions will host Bethany in the home opener on Saturday. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.
