Softball Splits With Mt. Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Penn State Behrend softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Mt. Union, taking game one 4-2 and falling 8-0 (5) in the nightcap on Wednesday afternoon. 

Game One: Penn State Behrend 4, Mt. Union 2 
Records: Penn State Behrend (6-6), Mt. Union (10-11) 

Noteworthy: 

* Behrend took a 3-1 lead in the first inning and held on for the win
Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double
Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) led with two RBIs and Nadia Bongiorni (Avella, PA/Avella) tallied two hits
* Pitcher
 Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) threw a complete game for her third win, allowing five hits and two runs
* Schmidt threw 63 strikes in 89 pitches over the seven innings
* The Lions started the three-run first inning with back-to-back hits
Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA/DuBois) walked to load the bases with no outs
* C. McNany was hit by a pitch for the RBI, scoring Jones before Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) drove in Bongiorni for a 2-0 lead
* Bundy made it 3-0 thanks to Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) reaching on a fielders choice
* Mt. Union tallied a run in the bottom of the frame and again in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2
* Behrend added an insurance run in the seventh on a ground out by C. McNany to send home Jones

Game Two: Mt. Union 8, Penn State Behrend 0 (5 innings) 
Records: Penn State Behrend (6-7), Mt. Union (11-11) 

Noteworthy: 

* Alyssa Rose threw a one-hit shutout to help the Purple Raiders get their 11th win of the season
* Rose struck out three and remains undefeated in the circle
* After two scoreless innings, Mt. Union scored three runs in the third and five in the fourth
* Manioci tallied the lone hit for Behrend 
Alaina Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) suffered the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and giving up four earned runs
