ANGOLA, Ind.– The Penn Behrend softball team had their season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-1 in the 2022 NCAA Regional Tournament hosted by Trine on Saturday afternoon.

Noteworthy:

* The Blugolds used extra-base hits in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead
* In the opening frame, Sadie Erickson hit a solo home run to left center
* Next inning, back-to-back doubles scored Madi Zerr for a two-run advantage
* The Lions cut the lead to 2-1 after the fifth inning
* Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA/DuBois)
* Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) knocked her in with a hit down the left-field line
* The Blugolds added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin
* Three hits generated one run by Megan Maruna
* Zerr picked up the win in the circle, allowing two hits in 6.1 innings pitched
* Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) suffered the loss with two runs on three hits to finish the season 11-6
* Manioci tallied two of the four hits for the Lions on the day
