Lions Defeat Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY  – Amy Oldach recorded a game-high 21 points along with nine rebounds and five steals to lead Penn State Behrend women's basketball team past Nazareth 74-55 in non-conference action to ring in the New Year with win.

Three other players scored in double figures including Holly Bourquin, who tallied 13 points and 13 boards. She was joined by Kim Pol with 13 points and Aly Eagle added 12 in the Lions' (5-3) third straight victory.

Behrend knocked down nine three-pointers as a team and held the Golden Flyers scoreless for nearly three minutes while using a 16-2 run to take a commanding lead early in the second half to hold off Nazareth in the first game back since break.

In a close first half, the hosts took their first lead of the game in the middle of the first half off back-to-back layups from Brittany Wilson at 15-11. Aly Eagle responded with consecutive triples to regain a two-point lead.

The Golden Flyers kept a slim advantage, but with the game tied at 26-all Oldach hit for four points and Brianna Bayly went 2-for-2 from the line and drained a three-pointer for a 34-28 lead at halftime.

The scoring draught started for Nazareth with 38 seconds left in the half and continued until the 17:39 mark to open the second stanza. Bourquin got a basket in the paint, while Oldach followed with a three and a layup.

Eagle's unconventional three-point play put the Lions ahead 44-28. Behrend stayed out front for the remainder of the game and went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe in the final 1:36 to seal the win.

Wilson was the leading scorer for Nazareth with a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) off the bench.

The Lions return to action on Sunday at Alfred. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
