Behrend Breezes By Franciscan in AMCC Action

STUEBENVILLE, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team picked up their fourth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) victory with a convincing 58-31 win over Franciscan on Saturday afternoon.

It is the second game this season the Lions (6-5, 4-2 AMCC) have won by 25 points or more. Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) led with 10 points and a season-best 17 rebounds for her sixth double-double this season. Myers also made three blocks, while Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) also added 10 points.

Monica Dawyot was the leading scorer for the Barons (3-9) with 10 points.

Behrend had a quick 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game, but the Barons came back with a 9-2 run to knot the game at the 13:27 mark. From there, the Lions defense clamped down and just allowed three more points by Franciscan in the remainder of the half.

Although the Barons could not make a basket, Behrend had no problem and took a 27-12 lead into halftime.

The Lions started the second half 7-for-8 from the field to take a commanding 42-18 advantage with 12:52 left to play.

Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) finished with nine points and Aly Eagle (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) drained a few triples for eight points. Sarah Schweitzer (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) grabbed a season-best seven rebounds in 12 minutes of work.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow at Penn State Altoona. Game time is 1 p.m.
