Lions Top Altoona on Senior Day

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team defeated Penn State Altoona 78-42 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (15-9, 13-5 AMCC) won the battle of the boards and forced 28 turnovers to cruise to their second straight victory.

Behrend raced out to a quick 11-0 lead with the help of six early points by senior Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane).  After Altoona finally got on the board, the Lions went on another huge run.  Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon) capped a 14-3 run with back-to-back threes to put Behrend up 25-5.  The two teams traded buckets for the rest of the opening stanza with the Lions holding a 32-15 lead at the break.

With the second half underway, Behrend stayed hot on the offensive end.  Myers netted seven of the Lions' first 11 points as Behrend continued to hold a huge advantage.  The Lions pushed their lead to 34 by the 6:10 mark and never looked back to finish the regular season with the win.

The three Behrend seniors, Myers, Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel), and Aly Eagle (Marmony, PA/Seneca Valley), combined to score 33 points, pull down 18 rebounds, and dish out eight assists.  Myers' 16 points led all scorers with Bourquin contributing 14.  Corso tied a season-high with 14 points including four threes.

With the victory, the Lions secured the third seed in the AMCC Tournament.  Behrend will host Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday with a time to be announced.
