Hot Shooting Lifts La Roche Over Behrend

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The La Roche women's basketball team shot 61.3 percent from the floor and outscored Penn State Behrend 47-15 in the second half to earn a 85-41 victory in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

Casie Cygan went 9-for-13 from the field for a game-high 21 points, and Shataya White added 14 points and five assists to help the Redhawks (12-3, 7-1 AMCC) earn their seventh conference win of the season.

Brianna Bayly (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) paced the Lions (2-11, 1-6 AMCC) with four three-pointers for a team-best 16 points.

La Roche opened the game making 8-for-11 shots from the field to take a 17-5 advantage in the first six minutes. White tallied eight of her 14 during that stretch. The Redhawks kept working the ball inside, getting 30 of their 38 first-half points in the paint.

Behrend went on a 10-2 run to close out the half to cut the lead to 10 at 36-26 thanks to triples by Bayly and Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon).

La Roche got even better in the second half, shooting an outstanding 62.5 percent and holding a 19-8 advantage in rebounds.

Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport) led the Lions on the boards with nine rebounds to go along with nine points.

Behrend returns to action on Monday at Hilbert. Game time is 8 p.m.
