Kenyon Defeats Women's Basketball in Tip-Off Consolation

ERIE, Pa. – Lauren Kriete shot 8-for-12 from the floor and knocked down four three-pointers for a game-high 20 points to lead the Kenyon women's basketball team past Penn State Behrend 57-39 in the consolation game of the Creative Imprints Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Sarah Hobbs added 10 points to her 13 from yesterday's game to earn All-Tournament Team honors, helping the Ladies (1-1) get their first win of the season.

Maggie Lawrence (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) combined for 23 of the team's 39 points. Lawrence recorded a team-best 12 points and grabbed five boards, while Burke helped with 11 points and five rebounds.

Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Lions (0-2). She registered a game-high 12 rebounds to go with six points, four assists and two steals on the day.

Kenyon tallied 17 points off turnovers and 12 on second-chance points to outscore Behrend by nine points in each half for the win.

The Ladies capitalized on turnovers and were effective behind the arc, knocking down five three-pointers in the first half to take a double-digit lead at 19-9. Sadie Zielinski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) returned the favor with a triple and Kiger knocked in two from the charity stripe to cut the deficit to nine points at halftime.

Zielinski opened up the second half still hot from the end of the first, getting back-to-back treys followed by a bucket from Lawrence to make it a five-point game and force Kenyon to take a timeout.

After the break, Bailey Dominguez hit a good three-pointer and Griffin Tullis got a pair of baskets to help in the nine-point run that put the Ladies ahead for good.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday against Thiel in the Junker Center. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
