D'Youville Defeats Lions in Conference Opener

ERIE, Pa. – The D'Youville women's basketball team had four players in double figures to post a 75-63 win over Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night.

Jean-Ann Korona shot 50 percent from the floor for a team-high 22 points, while Amanda Marcely pitched in with a double-double (13 points, 12 boards) to help the Spartans (5-1, 1-0 AMCC) win the AMCC opener.

Senior guard Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) scored over half of the Lions (0-6, 0-1 AMCC) points with a career-high 34. She drained three triples and shot 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport) grabbed a team-best nine points and was one of three players to chip in with six points.

D'Youville used a 17-5 run in the last 5:56 of the first half to pull away from Behrend for good. Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and Maggie Lawrence (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) hit a jump shot to tie the game at 18-all with 6:58 showing on the clock.

Alyssa Donnelly put the Spartans up by two with a layup and Awilda Murphy got one of two free throws to drop for a three-point lead. D'Youville used a timeout and broke loose in the last six minutes. Bridget Andrews drained three treys and added a free throw for 10 points in the run.

Burke nearly doubled her points in the second half, going 7-for-10 from the floor for 22 points. As a team, the Lions continue to stay hot from the free-throw line shooting 86.4 percent (19-for-22). Glenn pulled down a season-best six rebounds to go with six points, four assists and two steals.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at La Roche. Game time is 2 p.m.
