Lions Fall Short Against Altoona

ERIE, Pa.- Moira Corrigan scored 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Penn State Altoona past Penn State Behrend 66-55 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Action (AMCC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

The Altoona Lions (2-7, 2-2 AMCC) came back from a four-point deficit after the first half to finish with an 11-point lead at the end for their second conference win. Devin Stessney scored a team-high 15 points and drained three of the squad's seven three pointers that made the difference in the game.

Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) posted a game-high 18 points and a career-high nine steals for the Lions (0-9, 0-3 AMCC). Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) had her first career double-double with season bests 15 points and 10 boards.

For the first time this season, Behrend had a lead at halftime and outrebounded an opponent with a 48-39 margin.

Glenn hit a non-traditional three-point play with 8:17 left in the first half to give the Lions the lead for good heading into intermission. She made the lead 18-16, and added four more points down the stretch for a 26-22 edge.

After the break, Corrigan started with a pair of buckets and Brittany Boslet drained a trey to put Altoona in front for good. The Lions hit four triples in the second half, knocking them down and Behrend when they tried to take back the lead.

The Lions got within four points with three minutes left on a Burke jumper, but Altoona closed out the game 3-for-3 from the field and got four free throws to drop to end with a double-digit lead.

Maggie Lawrence (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) tallied a season-high nine rebounds for Behrend.

The Lions return to action on January 3 at Pitt-Bradford. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
