Depth Helps Pitt-Greensburg Past Behrend

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team got 33 points off the bench and had five player in double-digit scoring to post a 77-63 win over Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Sunday.

As a team, the Bobcats (8-5, 4-2 AMCC) went 21-for-24 (87.5 percent) from the charity stripe and used a strong first half to take a 13-point lead and hold on for their fourth conference win, while stopping the Lions (1-12, 1-5 AMCC) from getting their second straight victory.

Morgan Biddle tallied a team-high 17 points, including 15 in the second half for Pitt-Greensburg. Brittany Butterworth came off the bench to add 16 points and seven rebounds.

Freshman Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) scored a season-best 18 points and Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) registered 17 to combine for more than half of Behrend's total points.

After a first close 14 minutes, the Bobcats surged in the final six with a 21-10 run to make it 41-28 at halftime. Woll knocked in two three-pointers and Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) got her layup to fall to keep it a two-point game.

From there, Emily Merryman scored all of her 11 points in the final 3:58 of the first half to help Pitt-Greensburg pull away from the Lions.

Thanks to the big first half, the Bobcats kept the comfortable lead throughout the second half by narrowly outscoring Behrend, 36-35.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at Medaille. Game time is 6 p.m.
