Lions Fall to Medaille, 66-54

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Morgan Howe recorded a double-double to lead Medaille past the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team 66-54 Wednesday night. Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) scored 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting to lead the Lions (1-13, 1-6 AMCC) and added five rebounds along with two steals.

Maggie Lawrence (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) got Behrend off to a hot start scoring five points in the games first two minutes . Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport) followed with a layup at the 17:42 mark in the first half to lift the Lions to an early 7-4 lead. Medaille (5-8, 4-3 AMCC) went on a 7-0 run and snatched the lead holding a seven point advantage with 14:09 to play in the first half.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) notched a three-pointer with 2:50 remaining in the first frame to cut the Medaille lead to two points. The Mavericks tallied five more points in the final 2:39 and headed to the locker room with a 34-27 advantage.

 Medaille used a 17-2 run to start the second half to take control of the game and held on to seize the victory. The Lions outrebounded Medaille 45-to-31 but lost the turnover battle 23-to-10. Lawrence finished the game in double figures and also added six rebounds. Kiger recorded a team-high 12 rebounds and also chipped in four points.

Four Mavericks scored in double-figures and as a team Medaille shot 39.1 percent from the floor (25-of-64). Medaille took advantage of Behrend mistakes notching 17 points off of turnovers compared to just five for the Lions.

Behrend continues conference play Saturday in a match-up against Mt. Aloysius. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
