Women's Basketball On a Roll; Lions Defeat Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team won their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) game, defeating Hilbert 72-56 on Monday night at the Hafner Recreation Center.

The Lions (3-13, 3-6 AMCC) posted their second highest offensive output this season and had every player score, including a game-high 24 points from Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and a career-high 17 rebounds from Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport).

Shannon Rogers recorded a team-best 23 points for the Hawks (0-13, 0-9 AMCC), who are still in search for their first win.

In four of the last five games, Behrend has shot over 40 percent from the floor and dominated on the boards. Kiger pulled down a third of the Lions rebounds in the team's total of 47.

Emily Speidel hit a three-pointer at the 16:55 mark of the first half to give Hilbert its first and only lead of the game.  Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) hit the next layup 12 seconds later at 6-5 and the Lions never trailed again and eventually got their largest lead at 18 points.

With a small 22-20 edge over the Hawks, Behrend used an 18-5 run ending on a Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) layup with 2:45 left in the half to push the lead to 40-25.

Hilbert got within five points to start the second half and then were held to just five points for the next five minutes by the Lions' defense.  The offense continued to produce and regain the double-digit lead, hitting the 58-40 mark with 12:47 remaining in the game.

Kiger scored all eight points in the second half, while Glenn and Burke were in double-digit scoring in the first half with 11 and 15 points, respectively. Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) had a team-best five assists in the win.

Behrend looks to make it three in a row at D'Youville on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
