Franciscan Edges Behrend in Overtime

ERIE, Pa. – Monica Dawyot hit the game-tying three pointer and then scored four of Franciscan's nine points in overtime to lead the women's basketball team past Penn State Behrend 61-54 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Barons (8-12, 6-8 AMCC) outscored the Lions (4-17, 4-10 AMCC) 9-2 in the five-minute overtime period to earn the regular-season split in the series. Lacey Huck and Iliana Gonzales helped Franciscan with 14 points apiece.

It was the first time this season Behrend lost with holding a lead at halftime. Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) each recorded a team-best 11 points. Burke got her first double-double of the season, adding 11 rebounds.

From the corner of the court, Dawyot buries a three pointer on a pass from Gonzales to knot the score at 52-all heading into overtime.

Franciscan's defense held the Lions to just two points in overtime, while Dawyot hit four from the free-throw line and Huck added two from the charity stripe to take control of the game when it counted.
