Women's Basketball Takes Down Pitt-Greensburg

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team had four players in double-figure scoring and shot 46 percent from the floor to defeat Pitt-Greensburg 66-39 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Sunday afternoon.

Kourtney Beamesderfer (Rebersburg, PA/Penns Valley) had her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to help the Lions (4-6, 2-2 AMCC) pick up their fifth straight win over the Bobcats (1-7, 1-4 AMCC) to earn their second conference victory of the season.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), Autumn Byes (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) and Emily Kinecki (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) each added 13 points in the win.

Kelsey Oddis and Nadege Durand both tied with 11 points and nine rebounds for Pitt-Greensburg.

Behrend jumped out to a 12-3 lead 3:36 of the first quarter behind six points from Woll. The Bobcats went on a 15-6 run to close out the period and knot the game at 18-all. Over the next 10 minutes, the Lions held Pitt-Greensburg to a single layup at the 3:57 mark by Durand for an impressive 37-20 lead at halftime.

It is the first time Behrend has held an opponent to just two points in a single quarter this season. The hot shooting and dominant defense continued in the final two quarters. The Bobcats scored one point less combined than the first two quarters put together, while the Lions put up double digits in each period.

The win marks the second time this season the Lions shot over 40 percent.

Behrend returns to action after the holidays on Friday, December 29 at St. Mary's (MD). Game begins at 2 p.m.
