Woll Hits 1,000 Career Points; Lions Take Down Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Autumn Byers (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) each scored 15 points to lead the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team past Franciscan 73-53 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions (8-10, 5-5 AMCC) outscored the Barons (0-15, 0-10 AMCC) 38-20 in the second half to secure their fifth conference win of the season. Behrend also tied its season-low 12 turnovers while forcing 20 and outrebounding Franciscan 45-34.

With 2:37 left in the first quarter, Woll drained a three-pointer to give her 1,001 points for her career. It also gave the Lions a 15-7 lead and then triple made it 18-9 with 1:21 left in the quarter. Franciscan scored five quick points to cut the lead to four heading into the second period at 18-14.

The Barons held a 19-17 scoring advantage in the second quarter to make it a two-point game at halftime. Behrend bounced back in the third for a 55-43 lead with 10 minutes remaining. After the third quarter, the Lions were 9-for-12 from the free-throw line and Franciscan converted the only foul shot they were granted.

Behrend never backed down in the fourth quarter and continued to dominate defensively, only allowing 10 points by the Barons. 

Dillman was the third player in double figures, scoring 13 points in just 17 minutes of work on perfect shooting (4-for-4) from the field and charity stripe.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at D'Youville. Game time is 8 p.m.
