Late Three-Pointers Lift Pitt-Greensburg Past Lions

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team knocked down a pair of three-pointers late in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 62-57 win over Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Bobcats (5-16, 5-9 AMCC) avenged a 66-39 loss earlier in the season against the Lions (8-13, 5-8 AMCC) thanks to a double-double by Kelsey Oddis with a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Autumn Byes posted her second straight double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) added 14 points.

Colleen Murphy and Sam Ballow tallied back-to-back triples with 3:15 left to play to break open a 54-all deadlock to help Pitt-Greensburg secure the conference win.

The Lions trailed by eight in the first quarter and then used the second quarter to build a two-point lead by halftime. Byes and Kourtney Beamesderfer (Rebersburg, PA/Penn Valley) scored six points apiece, while Woll added five to make it 30-28.

The Bobcats used the same tactics to win the game to take the lead in the third quarter. Murphy and Oddis hit consecutive three-pointers to take a six-point lead after being tied at 32-all.

Behrend got within one on an Emily Kinecki (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) layup with 40 seconds left in the third, but Addy Coddington got her layup to fall for a 44-41 lead with one quarter left.

It was Kinecki again that tallied four straight points in the fourth to give the Lions a 50-46 lead with 7:31 on the clock.

Pitt-Greensburg hit the two triples down the stretch to make nine treys overall for the game to post the five-point win.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against La Roche. Game time is 8 p.m.
