Wresting Competes at Waynesburg Invitational

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team finished 14th out of 16 teams with 32.5 points at the Waynesburg Invitational held on Saturday.

The Lions got three wins from Jacob Paulson (Erie, PA/McDowell) at 184. The freshman earned an 18-1 tech. fall against Nate Tommas of Case Western. He then fell 12-3 (major decision), before winning the next two bouts at 184. He defeated Max Fleming of Johns Hopkins 6-5 and pinned Sam Solomon of Alderson Broadu in just one minute.

Donnie Kerr (Ellwood City, PA/Lincoln) led Behrend at 157. After falling into the consolation bracket, he picked up a pair of wins. He pinned Evan Brown of Washington & Jefferson in 1:30, before posting a 7-2 decision over Sam Phillips of Ohio Valley.

At 174, Zachary Ishman (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville) pinned Kyle Beard of Washington & Jefferson in 40 seconds in the consolation round but did not get past the next opponent for his only win of the day.

Jacob Lenhardt (McKean, PA/General McLane) had one win at heavyweight, posting a 6-3 win over Cody Carr of Mt. Union, before falling in the consolations due to an injury.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at the Mt. Union Open. Wrestling begins at 1 p.m.
