Wrestlers Defeat Kent State Tuscawaras; Fall to Case Western

URICHSVILLE, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team went 1-1 in a tri-match hosted by Kent State Tuscawaras on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions defeated the Golden Eagles 30-25 for their third dual-meet victory of the season and then fell to Case Western 39-16.

Against the Spartans, Behrend tallied three wins beginning with Jake Ognibene (Washington, PA/Chartiers Houston) at 149. The freshman got his second major-decision win of the season, posting an 11-3 victory over Thomas Gallagher to make it 15-4 in the overall match.

The second win belonged to Sam Svetz (North East, PA/North East) at 165. He pinned Connor Gordon in 2:59 for his second victory this season by fall.

At 184, Sam Tubbs (Mt. Lebanon, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded his first collegiate win by pinning Brent Kent in 2:31 to make it 27-16 in favor of Case Western. The Spartans won the final two bouts for a 39-16 final.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday, Janaury 30 against Gannon "B". Match time is 7 p.m.
