WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team competed on the first day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Southeast Regionals held at Lycoming College on Friday afternoon.
Key Moments:
* The Lions have one wrestlers still in contention to place
* At 184, Jake Paulson (Erie, PA/McDowell) fell to Bradley Miccio of Lycoming in overtime. After a 1-all draw through three periods, Miccio used a takedown to get two points for the win.
* Paulson fought back to stay alive with pinning Adam Rigney of Waynesburg, posting a big 6-1 third period before the fall at 6:17. He then used two takedowns and a reversal to defeat Dominic Farabaugh of Thiel to stay alive with a 8-5 decision
* Levko Higgins (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) only need one take down to pin Nate Powley of Pitt-Bradford in 1:18 to advance in the championship bracket at 174.
* Higgins then fell to No. 10 Colin Kowalski of Gettysburg by major decision, 11-1 in his second match before getting bumped out by Nathan Wertheimer of Johns Hopkins by a score of 7-3
* Zackery Trim dropped his first match and the pinned Carlos Ortega of Greensboro in 3:37 at 197 weight class. He then fell 8-2 to Antavian Leary of Ferrum
* Michael Binni (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) at 125, went 1-2 on the day, pinning Michel Duncan of Thiel in his second match in 3:22. He lost in his final match 13-5 to Ethan Hartman of Washington & Lee.
