Wrestling Heads to NCAA Southeast Regional

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team travels to Williamsport, Pa. and Lycoming College to participate in the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional, a two-day NCAA Championships qualifier at the Lamade Gym. Preliminary matches begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, while the championship rounds kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

* The Lions will have five wrestlers competing this weekend at a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships
* Senior Cole Ruffo (Mercer, PA/Hickory) and junior Brian Himes (Brookville, PA/Brookville) are making their
second appearance at Regionals
* Two years ago, Ruffo and Himes posted an 0-2 record at Regionals at the 149 and 184, respectively
* Last time out, Ruffo posted his first major decision of the season
* Joe Newara (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) enters with a 17-6 overall record at heavyweight
* Newara has won 11 of his last 12 bouts, pinning seven opponents
* Sophomore Reno DiCesare (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) and freshman Andrew Maser (Cranberry Township,
PA/Harmony) will represent the Lions this weekend
* DiCesare will wrestle at 197, while Himes is competing at 165
* DiCesare ranks third on the team in wins, while Himes is fourth
