Women's Soccer To Battle William Smith in NCAA First Round

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team will be making its second straight and fifth overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament this weekend. The Lions will travel to Geneva, NY to face William Smith on Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m.

The Lions (12-8) earned the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's (AMCC) automatic bid into the 64-team tournament after winning their second consecutive title and eighth conference crown. The Herons (13-2-3), who are ranked No. 12 in the latest NSCAA National Poll, defeated Union 3-2 to win the Liberty League Championship and earn the NCAA bid.

The other first-round match will feature SUNY Cortland (11-4-5) and Springfield (13-4-2), beginning at 1:30 p.m. The winners will play each other in a second-round match at 1 p.m. on Sunday hosted by William Smith to determine who advances to the NCAA Sectionals.

Admission to each day is $6 for adults, students and senior citizens are $3, ages 3-12 are $2 and children two years old and younger will be admitted for free.

Behrend finished with an 8-1 conference record to be named the AMCC Co-Regular-Season Champions, before handing D'Youville a 1-0 loss in the semifinals and then defeating Pitt-Bradford for the championship.

It will be the first time Behrend and William Smith will play each other in program history. The Lions have never faced SUNY Cortland or Springfield.
