Troyan Named AMCC Woman of the Year

ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Behrend women's soccer player, Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler), was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) nominee for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The program honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions.

During Troyan's four years at Behrend she was a part of four AMCC championship teams and was a three-time member of the AMCC All-Conference team. The goalkeeper was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-East Region selection in 2014.

The senior, majoring in nursing, has already passed her state licensure exam and has been working in the field for more than a year. That is in addition to her other duties: a full-time student, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Secretary and captain of the women's soccer team, where she set the school record with 86 consecutive starts.

Troyan also found time to give back to her community. She volunteered with the TOPS Soccer Program where she helped provide special needs children the opportunity to play soccer, the Second Harvest Food Bank, Special Olympics, THON, and also served as an academic tutor on campus.

Perhaps her most impressive award came this spring when she was the first Behrend student-athlete to be selected as one of five Penn State students honored with the prestigious John W. Oswald Award

The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee selects the Top 30 – 10 from each division and then three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics selects the winner from the top nine. All 30 Woman of the Year honorees will be recognized, and the 2016 Woman of the Year announced on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at an awards dinner in Indianapolis, IN.
