Lions Fall to Westminster

ERIE, Pa. – The Westminster women's swimming and diving team defeated Penn State Behrend 170-85 in non-conference action in the Junker Center on Saturday afternoon.

Abigail Witmer (Herndon, VA/Herndon) led the way for the Lions with three wins. She was the first-place finisher in the 100 backstroke (1:04.91) and the 200 backstroke (2:21.96), before swimming a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Paola Maldonado (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) and Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) joined Witmer in the final relay win with a time of 3:53.14.

Lowery was also an individual winner on the day. She touched the wall in 2:22.41 in the 200 IM for first place. Lowery led Behrend in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle. She placed second in both with times of 1:04.59 and 2:07.11, respectively.

Wyckoff was third in the 200 freestyle, but then earned second place in the 100 freestyle (58.50).

In the 50 freestyle, Maldonado led the way with second place in 26.21. The freshman also joined Witmer, Wyckoff and Taylor Bean in the opening 200 medley relay for second place with a time of 2:03.17

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Chatham. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
