Chatham Outlasts Women's Swimming and Diving

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Chatham women's swimming and diving team defeated Penn State Behrend 142-110 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Abigail Witmer (Herndon, VA/Herndon), Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) each won an individual event to lead the Lions.

Witmer was the winner in the 200 backstroke by .02 seconds with a time of 2:22.13. She was also second in three other events. Witmer was runner up in the 200 butterfly (2:28.68), the 100 butterfly (1:06.68) and the 400 free relay along with Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois), Horn and Lowery for a time of 3:59.16.

Lowery touched first in the 200 IM in 2:20.65 and was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:56.03).

In the 100 freestyle, Horn paced Behrend with a time of 57.97 for first place and Wyckoff followed in close third (58.82). Horn was also second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.14).

Wyckoff picked up a pair of second-place finishes in addition to third in the 100 freestyle. She was runner up in the 200 freestyle (2:06.06) and the 500 freestyle (5:52.90).

Leading the way in the 50 free was Paola Maldonado (San Juan, Puerto Rico). She was second in 26.55 and Devon Van Rensburg (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford) took third in 28.24.

Maldonado, Van Rensburg, Marissa Adams (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) and Jessica Rettger (Bradford, PA/Bradford) made up the opening 200 medley relay team that placed second in 2:13.18.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Baldwin Wallace. Meet time is 1 p.m.
