Lions Sit Sixth After Day Two at Fredonia

FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team moved up one spot to sixth place out of nine teams on the second day of the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday.

The Lions have a combined 230 points, while the lead John Carroll has 600 points and second-place Allegheny is close with a score of 555. SUNY Brockport sits in third (308).

Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) started off with a second-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:49.77. Lowery also was the top Behrend finisher in the 200 freestyle, winning the "B" final in 2:01.44 for ninth place.

Abigail Witmer (Herndon, VA/Herndon) led the Lions in the In the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Witmer was sixth overall in the backstroke in 1:03.28 and then was first in the "B" final and ninth overall in 59.03 in the butterfly.

Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) finished eighth in the 100 backstroke behind Witmer in 1:04.43.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the Blue Devil Invite.
