ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team has a two-point lead over Cabrini for first place after the second day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Thursday night.
The Lions have totaled 208 points through 13 events and the Cavaliers are a close second with 206. Pitt-Bradford is in third place with a score of 191, while Franciscan holds fourth place (76), Pitt-Bradford is fifth (71) and Penn State Altoona sixth (59).
The opening 200 freestyle relay broke the AMCC meet, conference and team record with a time of 1:39.80. Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) led off the winning relay followed by Paola Maldonado (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Devon Van Rensburg (Johannesburg, South Africa/Sagrados Corazones) and Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois).
For the third straight year, Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) won the 50 freestyle at the championships. This season she posted a winning time of 24.93. Maldonado was .04 seconds from Horn for second (24.97) and Wyckoff tallied third to help Behrend sweep the top three spots.
Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was first in the 200 IM in the prelims and finished first overall in the finals with a time of 2:10.91.
In the 500 freestyle, Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) paced the Lions in 5:34.66 for fourth place overall.
The final event of the night, the 400 medley relay, the Lions earned their fourth win of the night. Horn, Van Rensburg, Lowery and Wyckoff swam the medley to collect a time of 4:11.65 for first place.
Behrend returns to action tomorrow for day three of the championships, beginning at 10 a.m.
