Lowery Headlines All-AMCC Women's Swimming and Diving Team

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team had eight student athletes honored with 25 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) accolades, while senior Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was named AMCC Swimmer of the Year.

Lowery was named the AMCC Swimmer of the Year for the second time in her career, earning the same honor as a sophomore. She helped the Lions finish runner up at the AMCC championships this past weekend and was a part of eight records, setting four relay  and winning two individual events. Lowery broke two records leading off the winning 800 free relay and then the relay broke four more. She won the 200 IM and 400 IM, while swimming on three winning relays. (400 medley, 800 free relay, 200 medley).

Out of the 25 All-AMCC awards, the Lions grabbed 22 first-team honors and three second team.

The 2017 Swimmer of the Year, Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village), was a seven-time All-AMCC selection including six on the first team. She was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay, while being named AMCC Champion in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Her second-team All-Conference honor was in the 100 freestyle for touching second.

Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) garnered all six All-AMCC honors on the first team. She was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Wyckoff was the AMCC Champion in the 100 and 200 freestyle for two gold medals and more first-team honors.

Abigail Witmer (Herndon, VA/Herndon) was a four-time All-Conference choice. She won the 100 butterfly and backstroke, while swimming on the winning 200 medley relay for first-team honors. She then was selected to the second team for her runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke.

Paola Maldonado (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Devon van Rensburg (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford) were members of the winning 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay for first-team honors. Maldonado was a second-team choice in the 50 free and van Rensburg tallied her third first-team award in the 400 medley relay.

Lacy Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) and Danielle Rio-Martinez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Sagrados Corazones) rounded out the first-team honors for Behrend. Grinnen swam on the winning 800 freestyle relay and Rio-Martinez was one of the four in the 400 free relay.
