Penn State Altoona Nips Behrend in AMCC Semifinals

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team fell short of advancing to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship match with a 5-2 loss to Penn State Altoona in the semifinals on Saturday night.

The Lions (7-6) won a doubles and a singles match in the abbreviated semifinals. The second-seeded Altoona Lions will face the top-seeded Franciscan Barons in the title match tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) posted an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Kate Hugendubler and Sophia Girol.

Bentley then tallied a 6-0, 6-3 decision against Girol at No. 3 singles before the match was halted due to Altoona winning four, five and six singles.

Behrend will return to action in the spring over break at Hilton Head, South Carolina.
