Behrend Competes at First Day of ECAC Championships

NEW YORK, Ny. – The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track team competed in day one of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on Friday.

For the women's team, Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) set a new Penn State Behrend school record in the pole vault, leaping at a height of 11'7.75" (3.55m). She finished in second place on the day. Also in the pole vault, Gabriella Loeffler (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) jumped at a height of 10'2" for a fifth place finish.

In the 5k, Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area) set a new personal record with a second place finish and final time of 18:26.68.

The women's DMR made up of Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area), Tiayerra Stroncek (Pittsburgh PA/Penn Hills), Caitlin Plazony (Fairview, PA/Fairview), and Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) finished in third place, running at a time of 12:53.88.

Then in the women's 4x200 relay, Yenchik teamed up with Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward), Ashlyn Carlsson (Butler, PA/Knoch), and Loeffler to place eighth for an All-ECAC finish. The four of them raced a time of 1:48.99.

As for the men's 4x200m relay, Behrend's 'A' squad comprised of Kurt Eberhardt (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton), Grant Rodgers (Oil City, PA/Oil City), Greg Graf (South Park, PA/South Park), and Devin Ross (Shenango, PA/Shenango) earned a second place finish, crossing the line at 1:32.62.

Behrend women sit at third in the team standing with 27 points after day one, while the men are in 10th place. The ECAC Championships continue tomorrow as the Lions strive to build on their first day.
