Women's Track and Field Sits Third at ECAC Outdoor Championships

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Penn State Behrend women's outdoor track & field team are in third place out of 22 teams after day one of the 2018 ECAC Championships hosted by Johns Hopkins on Wednesday.

The Blue Jays are in first place after day one with a score of 55.5 and Misericordia is second (39.5). The Lions are in third with 29.50 points with a close Waynesburg on their heels at 26 total points.

Haley Yenchick (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) was the first individual champion for Behrend. After finishing second in the pole vault at the indoor ECAC Meet, Yenchick delivered a gold performance with a height of 10-11 (3.33m) to score 10 points for the Lions. Gabrielle Loeffler (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) also earned points with her sixth-place finish (9-11.25). Yenchick was also seventh in the triple jump for her second All-ECAC honors in a leap of 35-02.50.

Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area) was third in the 5,000m race with a time of 18:26.46 and Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA/Bradford) followed in sixth (18:50.83) in a field of seven, both earning All-ECAC honors.

In the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles, Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) ran a time of 15.67 to be seeded second for the finals. She ran .16 seconds behind the top runner in Alisha Singleton of Rutgers-Camden.

In the steeplechase, Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) led the Lions with a time of 12:08.85 for fourth overall to garner All-ECAC honors.

The 4x400 meter relay was seventh overall with a time of 4:18.33.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the ECAC Championships.
