Lions Win CSAC Championship; Sargent and Yenchik Named Athletes of the Year

LAPLUME, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track & field team won the CSAC Championship on Sunday with a score of 290.5. Following Behrend was Keystone with a score of 92.5. The Lions had multiple top finishers and claimed both Track and Field Athletes of the Year.

Key Moments:

* Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) was named the CSAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year while Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) was named the CSAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year
* Sargent took home gold in the 3,000m steeplechase event with a time of 11:35.41, winning by more than 15 seconds, breaking the CSAC conference record
* Sargent also finished second in the 800m run and fourth in the 100m hurdles
*  Haley Yenchik won four events at the CSAC Championships. She won the pole vault and triple jump events on Saturday for her day one finish
* Yenchik also won the 100m dash on Sunday with a time of 12.87 followed with a win in the long jump
* In the long jump, Yenchik had a jump of 5.38m, breaking the school record
* Yenchik was also a member of the winning 4x400m relay along with Gabriella Loeffler (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Jenna Shelton (Cabot, PA/Knoch), and Suraihyah Sule (Snellville, GA/Shiloh)
* Yenchik and Sargent were both members of the 4x100m relay which took first along with Loeffler and Sule with a time of 51.81
* Emily Mischen (Gibsonia, PA/Deer Lakes) won the shot put event with a CSAC record-breaking throw of 11.66m, winning by more than 1.5m
* Mishen also won another gold in the discus throw for her second gold of the day, throwing a 29.41m
* Behrend went one and two in the 500m run with Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area) in first followed by Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area)
* Caroline Upham (Erie, PA/Iroquois) took home the gold in high jump with a leap of 1.56m, qualifying for the All-Atlantic meet
* Sule, Yenchik, and Loeffler took the two, three, and five spots in the 200m dash with times of 28.86, 27.83, and 27,55, respectively
* Shelton won the 800m run, followed by Sargent in second and Carr in fifth
* Loeffler won the women's 400m with a time of 1:01.60 followed close after by Shelton in second (1:01.87)
* Maria Czerwinski (Erie, PA/McDowell) tallied a third place in the 100m hurdles (18.27) followed by Sargent in fourth (18.46)
* Hanna Drozynski (Stoneboro, PA/Lakeview) and Czerwinski finished second and fourth in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:14.47 and 1:20.19, respectively
* Drozynski also took third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:31.05
