Women's Volleyball Falls to Baldwin Wallace

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace women's volleyball team remained undefeated with their 13th straight win with a 25-18, 25-14, 18-25 and 25-14 victory over Penn State Behrend in non-conference action on Monday night at the Junker Center.

The Yellow Jackets (13-0), who have only lost four sets this season, surrendered one to the Lions (3-8) but finished out the fourth set strong for the win. Allyson Smith tied the game high with 10 kills for Baldwin Wallace, while Kathleen Egan posted 34 assists.

Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward), coming off a triple-double last match, recorded a team-high 31 assists and 14 digs for the double-double. Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) added a team-best 10 kills.

Baldwin Wallace had a 13-10 lead in the first set and used a 7-1 run to pull ahead for good to go up 1-0 in the match with a 25-18 decision. In the second set, the Yellow Jackets hit .548 as a team with 18 kills and just one error on 31 attempts for a 2-0 lead in the match, winning 25-14.

Behrend came back in the third to win the set, something only two other teams have done to Baldwin Wallace this season. Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) had five of the 13 kills recorded. Tied at 7-all, Emily Archer (Butler, PA/Butler) served four straight points for the Lions and a 11-7 lead.

Behrend relied on the serving of Kylie McSwaney (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) next to pull ahead 18-8. The Lions held on and finished with kills by McSwaney and Henry for a 25-18 victory.

In the fourth set, Behrend was within one at 11-10 and the Yellow Jackets ended the set on a 14-4 run to keep an unblemished record.

Madison Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) had double-digit digs with 13 and Keely Hering (North East, PA/North East) knocked in eight kills along with Henry.

The Lions are back in action on Saturday at Alfred State. Match begins at 5 p.m.
