Volleyball Takes Two at NW PA Challenge

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team went undefeated on day one of the Northwest PA Challenge, defeating St. Vincent in the first match 3-0 and then earning a 3-1 victory against Marietta in the nightcap on Friday in the Junker Center.

Match One
Final Score: Behrend 3, St. Vincent 0 (31-29, 25-18, 25-16)
Records: Penn State Behrend (3-2), St. Vincent (3-2)

Key Moments:

* The first set (31-29) was the fourth extra-point set this season for the Lions and the first one that ended in their favor
* Alex Parra (Pittsburgh, PA/Bishop Canevin) knocked down the winning kill in the first set
* Behrend never trailed in the second and Irwin tallied a kill in the third to break open a 4-all tie that kept the Lions in the lead for good
* Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) had a match-high 15 kills
* Setter Lexi Irwin (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) recorded her third double-double of the season with 30 assists and 12 digs
* Three players had double-digit digs led by Madison Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) with 17
* Caroline Upham (Erie, PA/Iroquois) made a team-high four blocks

Records: Penn State Behrend (4-2), Marietta (3-4)

Key Moments:
* Emily Archer (Butler, PA/Butler) led the Lions with 11 kills while hitting .345
* As a team, the Lions tallied 51 digs and 48 kills, knocking down a match-high 15 kills in the third set on 39 attempts
* Irwin dished out 36 assists to go with 10 digs and seven kills
* Keely Hering (North East, PA/North East) added a nine dig, eight kill performance
* Behrend won the first set thanks to a kill from Henry
* Lions built a 10-point lead in the third (20-10) and went on to win by six
* Freshman Dani Kosslow (Pittsburgh, PA/South Park) served three consecutive points to build 16-11 lead for the Lions in the fourth set
