Behrend Women's Volleyball Travels to Alfred Saxon Classic This Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team will travel to Alfred, NY to compete in the 2021 Alfred Saxon Classic this weekend. The Lions face SUNY Potsdam on Friday night and battle SUNY Canton and Alfred on Saturday.

* The Lions earned a 3-0 season-opening victory over Thiel on Wednesday night
* Behrend posted a 25-21, 25-15, 25-20 decision
* Hannah Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) hit .345 on the night with a team-leading 13 kills on 29 attempts
* Brooke Joncas (Corry, PA/Corry) tallied 12 kills for a .333 attack percentage
* Cara Zollars (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Maddie Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) each had double-digit digs with 20 and 11, respectively
* The setting duties belonged to Meg Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) and Dani Kosslow (Pittsburgh, PA/South Park)
* Goodsel led with 16 assists and seven digs, while Kosslow contributed 15 assists, four digs and three service aces
* Behrend is facing SUNY Potsdam for the first time in program history
* The Lions are 2-0 against Alfred, winning 3-0 in 2013 and 3-1 in 2017
* Behrend and SUNY Canton are meeting for the second time. The Lions defeated the Roos 3-0 in 2017

Meet the Opposition:

* Alfred enters the weekend with an 0-1 record after falling in three sets to RIT on Wednesday night (25-11, 25-12, 25-22)
* The Saxons finished fifth in the Empire 8 2021 spring season, posting a 5-6 overall record and 3-3 conference mark
* The SUNY Potsdam Bears fell to Clarkson 3-1 in the season opener on Wednesday night
* The Bears return nine players and added eight newcomers to this year's roster
* SUNY Canton was voted to finish third in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West division
* The Roos roster features 16 players, 10 returning and six new faces
* SUNY Canton registered a 9-21 overall record in 2019
