Women's Water Polo Falls twice

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team dropped a pair of close games Saturday, 7-6 to W&J and 11-9 to Grove City.

In the morning game, the Lions (3-13) battled back from a four-goal deficit in the second half to tie the game up in the fourth quarter. However, W&J scored two late goals to squeek past Behrend.

With the score 4-1 to begin the third quarter, the Presidents scored the first goal of period to take a four-goal lead. Behrend started their comeback with two straight goals to make it 5-3 thanks to goals from Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Alison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford).

Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) then netted the first goal of the fourth quarter and two minutes later, Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) tied the game up.

Wood added her second goal of the game with 18 seconds remaining to make the score 7-6, but Behrend ran out of time.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Southerton Area) made 11 saves in goal while adding four steals.

THe Lions then took on Grove City in the nightcap, losing another tough game. Clare Jefferys (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) paced the Behrend offense with four goals, one in each period, but it wasnt enough to overcome the two goal Wolverine lead.

The Lions will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow when they take on W&J at 3 p.m.
