Behrend Splits Day Two of CWPA Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team competed in the second day of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional Tournament Saturday. They lost the first game 6-4 before bouncing back to a 11-6 win over over Utica in the nightcap.

The Lions 4-19) took on Connecticut College in game one. The Camels scored the first goal just 40 seconds into the game to take an early 1-0. Behrend managed to tie the game on three seperate occasions, but was never able to take the lead. The Lions scored one goal each quarter all coming from different players.

Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) scored the first goal to tie the game at 1-all. Alison McClure cut the Connecticut College lead to one, making it a 3-2 game in the second quarter. Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) broke open the second-half scoring with a third quarter goal to tie the game again. The Lions final goal came in the fourth from Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village), who tied the game at 4-all. The Camels, however, scored the final two goals of the game to secure the two goal victory.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) recorded 10 saves and picked up three steals in goal.

Behrend rebounded in game two, putting up five goals in the first quarter that the Pioneers were unable to recover from. Horn, Pinter and Wood combined for all 11 Lions goals.

Wood broke the scoring open followed by Horn and Pinter to make it a 3-0 game. Horn and Wood each added one more to close out the quarter.

Utica added three in the second and went into halftime trailing Behrend 8-4. Pinter controlled the scoring in the second half, tallying three of her four goals over the final 16 minutes.

Hollyrae Hanson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) made 11 saves in net while added four steals.

The Lions will finish their weekend with a 9 a.m. game against Carthage tomorrow.
