Lions Split During First Weekend of PSB Invite

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team split a pair of contests on Saturday as part of the PSB Invite hosted by the Lions. Behrend opened the day with a loss to Washington & Jefferson but capped off the day with a victory over Grove City.

Final Scores:

Washington & Jefferson 11, Penn State Behrend 10
Penn State Behrend 9, Grove City 4

Noteworthy:

* Senior Angela Laier (Lansing, MI/Holt) got on the board in the first quarter on Senior Day to tie it at 2-2
* The Lions jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over Grove City with Shannon Young (Roseville, CA/Roseville) and Marley Persch (Hudsonville, MI/Hudsonville) each finding the back of the net in the first quarter
* Both Young and Persch finished the victory tied for the team high in goals with three
* Kayla Scarpaci (Cypress, TX/Langham Creek), Sarah Mancebo (Tulare, CA/Mission Oak) and Brooklynn Mocny (Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead) each chipped in a tally during the win
* Behrend held the Wolverine offense to just one goal in the first half while outscoring Grove City 5-1
* Young had another three markers in the early game against Washington & Jefferson
* Emily McNaughton (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) added three to tie for the team lead
* The Lions led the Presidents 6-5 after one half of action
